Loss on a farm is something that every famer has to get accustomed to but as a mother watching your child struggle with the loss of her favorite chicken is heart breaking. Audrey's favorite chicken passed away suddenly the other week. While to most people a chicken isn't a big deal but this chicken was special. Audrey raised her since she was a couple days old and nursed her back from a dog attack 6 months ago. They had special talks while checking for eggs at the end of the day and she enjoyed listening to a good book. While it was a gut wrenching to watch her grieve over her chicken, it was also a good growing moment. Death is a part of everyone's life and since the pandemic it has been all too common, the learning to process the loss is a great life skill that many of us have a difficultly with. Sometimes all it takes is a ear to listen, a shoulder to cry/lean on, and making sure that they are remembered. While I'm sure that we will have more loss on the farm and also in our lives, I know that they will have to skills to handle loss when and where it happens that is one of the main goals that I have as a mother. I want to make sure that my kids have the skills to handle any situation that they come up against whether I am around to help or not. My husband and I raise our children different that most raise theirs's now a days but this world is not an easy place to live much less flourish and we want our kids to not only survive but thrive.
